Human-centred technology for the Art of connecting Generations and Expressing our cultural identities.

A white NAO social robot

A PhD project

that aims to codesign and evaluate a social robot with older immigrants from underrepresented regions living in Canada.

Older immigrants bring rich cultural experiences, languages, and traditions. Even so, their perspectives remain underrepresented in the design of new technologies.

Social robots have shown benefits in supporting well-being, social connection, and meaningful activities of older adults.

Through three creative workshops, 12 older immigrants in Montreal helped imagine and co-design a social robot that reflects their needs and cultural expectations.

A six-week community-based study with 20 older immigrants will explore individual and group interactions with the co-designed social robot.

H·age is a PhD research project led by Sofia Santos Nunes, supervised by Dr. Vincent Paquin and Dr. Melissa Park at McGill University's Department of Psychiatry, and funded by Mitacs in partnership with Inrobics Social Robotics.
